  • Letterman vs. Palin

The showdown begins!. First some background if you live in a cave.

Sarah Palin called on the public to rise up in opposition to David Letterman's jokes about her daughters Brisol and Willow Palin. In an interview on NBC, Palin described her controversy with the late night comedian as a "sad commentary on where we are as a culture." Mr. Letterman's explanation that he was referring to her 18 year old daughter, Bristol, instead of her 14 year old daughter, Willow, who accompanied her recently to New York was met with derision by Gov. Palin. She called it a "very convenient excuse" that took him a couple of days to present.

The article I read on ABC last night seem to indicate Todd Palin was saying that kind of talk incites people to rape. But I can't find it. The ABC article now has been updated, but has even funnier stuff.

Ries up against Letterman. . There are real problems in this country we should rise up against, and she wants us to rise up against a late night talk show host. Forget the national debt or global warming, she wants us to rise up against a tv host .

Then her comment how this affects self esteem of young girls. And saying that's why self esteem is so low. First of all self esteem is higher than it's ever been in schools. Schools have a system now where they inflate the self esteem of students. There was a belief back in my day that higher self esteem would create better test scores. Well that turned out to not work. Now you have all these kids going around thinking they are special and the world revolves around them. But I digress.

And thirdly the rape comments. First of all the age of consent in Alaska is 13. Although it is 16 for men above 18 (we had a thread recently about this). In any case saying he's advocating raping Willow is absurd. How could they even stretch that? People tend to throw around the rape word a bit too much now days. It diminishes the meaning of it and discredits the poor women (and men) who actually are raped. How is knocking up even close to raping? I don't get it.

Lastly only a moron couldn't see he was talking about Bristol not Willow. Bristol is the one who got knocked up after all, not Willow. Why would she assume he was talking about her younger daughter? Bristol is the one who got pregnant while still in high school. And the Palins did god know what (probably paid him off) to get the punk kid to marry her. Then when her campaign failed the kid said they weren't going to marry. Sounds to me he was either paid off, or threatened to marry her. Either way her daughter is a slut. I'm kidding of course, but I'm sure if I go to Alaska Palin will have me arrested. Or if I worked there she would have me fired as she likes to do.

So my question is who is out of line. Palin or Letterman? Try to be objective and not let your political views taint the poll. I'm a moderate conservative, yet even I side with Letterman. Palin is a conservative wannabe.

"One awkward moment for Sarah Palin at the Yankee game came during the seventh inning," Letterman said. "Her daughter was knocked up by Alex Rodriguez."

Her younger daughter was there with her not the older one. What he meant and what he said were two different things. He probably assumed it was the older one and didn't care to check or it was written by someone else and he simply read the script. For the most part I don't care. Palin should end the cross country banter with her initial statement and be done with it. But both of them are media whores by the nature of their professions so I won't expect that to happen.

Palin will do anything to extend her 15 minutes, and most media outlets seem to be falling all over each other to help. If she was a Civ4 Great Person she would let you discover the tech for the Idiocracy civic.

Bristol wasn't there. It was the 14 year old girl he thought should be knocked up by A-Rod and had to fend off advances from Eliot Spitzer the former governor addicted to whores.

Palin is an incredibly dumb c*nt and deserves anything she gets. Palin along with Hillary Clinton and Pelosi are concrete proof that women have no place in politics let alone being given the right to vote.

Don't get me wrong, Letterman sucks as well but thats because he's unfunny.

I think Letterman should sue Palin and use the money to fix those nasty front teeth of his. Or not sue Palin and use the gobs of money he already has to fix the teeth. Or just ask ABC to "blur" the upper part of his mouth. The rest, I don't care about.

I hear they were particularly nasty towards politicians in the 19th century etc. during campaigns. But I'm not sure if they ever went after a politician's family. But from what I was taught, those campaigns were dirty. But I don't have any links to how bad they were (hint for someone to find them ). But that was the general media, not a comedian. So I would think a comedian would have more leeway.

Now they are calling on Dave to be fired.

maybe this is a bigger deal than I originally thought. But I really feel they are blowing this out of proportion.

I'm not a big Dave fan (preferred him on Late Night), as I generally don't go for insulting humor like that. But he's been known for this. I remember that interview with Madonna that got a lot of news. He slammed her pretty good. But then again madonna is a grown woman, and she's been around the block a few thousand times.

But in the end I believe in freedom of speech. If people are offended, don't watch his show. If his rating drop enough, he'll lose his job.

As for the joke, I don't have a daughter, so I can't say for sure. But it seems more insulting to Rodrigez than to the girl. But that's my view.
