Didn't think of that. Apparently the atmospheric drag is sufficient to bring most meteorites to terminal velocity while still high in the atmosphere.

That makes his story of a fireball headed straight for his sort of difficult to reconcile. There would have been several seconds between the fireball petering out and the meteorite impacting.

How can one jump downward bound? I don't think I can go down on myself without going up first. Is that a law of physics? As far I don't know, that it is too counterintuitive for me. A lot like you should drive into tornadoes and in the same direction as your skid if your car is out of control. I never understood that.

Wiglaf, you need to wait until the plane hits a period of parabolic descent, during which you will be weightless. Then you float to the ceiling and jump downward out the door (which you have, I assume, already opened).

If the flight crew is doing something unhelpful like keeping the plane on an almost straight and level trajectory, then you will have to break into the cockpit. Incapacitate both the pilot and copilot, as well as any stewardesses and air marshals who attempt to interfere. Then take the control stick and push it all the way in.
