Yes it did. Only a few risked their careers to even speak out.

Seems to be better today in the Army units. Note that I'm much more distant, so this is hearsay. The policy was silly from the start. The 'don'ts' came about because the Chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee, Sam Nunn, was determined that rescinding the previous "no gays" rule would turn the Army pink and drive out all the "good soldiers." The 'don'ts' were a compromise.

None of the studies done on gay participation have shown any problems with open gays in the services of Britain or Israel so long as standard rules regarding conduct are in place. Two studies have shown that the 'don'ts' policy actually hurts by creating unnecessary communication barriers in units.

Its a silly policy, but I have never once had it impact my performance or anyone around me as far as I can tell. Honestly, its just something nobody really hears about or cares about except for mandatory training, and even that is rare.

Its really a non issue for non gay service members, out of mind.

I just wonder how well straight people in military could cope on daily basis if they could not speak about their relationships that they have with their buds.
Talk about realationships? What are you, gay?

The general rule is don't talk about your wives, don't talk about politics, and don't talk about religion. This keeps our self contained world in the middle of the ocean civil.

Go Patroklos! That is the way it would still be afterward for the services. However, the 'donts' policy actually requires that gays not engage in "homosexual sex" at any time during their service. With the policy lifted, these guys could go on shore leave as free as the others sailors airmen, et al to pursue "adventure."

            And don't talk about girlfriends/boyfriends, fiancees/fianaces.

They do pursue said "adventure." and It isn't just gays, lesbians are pretty wide spread too. And then your quasi-lesbian, the girls who think they want girls but then have a guy again and then want guys, and then settle with a manly girl....ugh. Yea, friend of mine...shes hot but so stupid.

My unit, we only had relationships, politics, last night's Madden, Halo, or CoD4 match to talk about. NTC, Irwin.....its work work work, an hour to shower and play and then back to work.

The policy is on the fence. Can't discriminate if you don't know a person is something so don't ask them, and they can't tell you. Poof, like magic the politician's problem is solved. Oh yea, it was magic.
