Luckily I have a high-speed connection so I'm not dependent on telegraphy. Even Western Union doesn't send telegraphs any more. That's because they finally realized how unimportant the telegraph was. They'd been operating under a severe delusion for 130 years.

I sometimes feel as though Comcast is sending my packets through banks of telegraph operators.

After 150 years, the era of the telegram came to a quiet end last week. Romanticized in film and song, the hand-delivered paper messages were made useless by telephones and e-mail.

2006? I thought you were joking.

Perhaps, but you reacted to me seriously when I denied the importance of the ****ING STEAM ENGINE.

Nah, you denied the relative importance. That's debateable

V2 rocket? Was that thing even very effective during the war? I don't think it ever hit anything of significance. Huge waste of money.

Now rocketry in general is very important. But the V2 by itself was a piece of crap.

Printing press isn't even on the list Probably because they don't have a historic one in the museum, as "object"

Steam Engine was the direct product of the stills used to make Scotch.

Funny how it all comes back to booze... booze and pron.

I'm pretty sure we've had this discussion before and the consensus was that the transistor clearly belongs at the top of any such list.

What's so great about an engine that generates steam btw? Could have invented something more useful, really

And penicllin was the first effective treatment of syphilis leading right into the sexual revolution. It is hard to imagine the porn industry today if syphilis was raging free.
