  • "When you make peaceful protest impossible, you make violent protest inevitable," adding, "I can promise you this--there is visceral contempt for this administration," in the pro-life community.
I love this quote on so many levels:

    1) Peaceful protest is impossible? When did that happen?
    2) Visceral contempt = inevitable violence? Then shouldn't the last couple of years of the Bush administration have been the most violent ever?
    3) Does the "pro-life community" that holds the administration in "visceral contempt" include the 20% of Obama voters who identified themselves as pro-life last November?

A false premise, assertions that do not follow each other logically, a broad over-generalization -- I think what we have here is proof that Randall Terry is posting on Poly as Ben Kenobi.

      • As others have pointed out, Wright is an example of a leftist anti-Semite.

And I'm sure there are liberal blacks who are racist against whites, Hispanics, and Asians.
A lot of Republicans are not racist, but a lot of racists are Republican.

Are you one of those people who thinks Hitler was a leftist?

Aside from the implicit (and wrong headed) assumption that racism and anti-semitism are the sole province of Right philosophy what makes you think Facism is a right wing dogma?

Then by Poly definition they can't be liberal can they?

                  • It was less than laissez-faire economically, but it was certainly formed as a reaction to socialism. And culturally it was extremely conservative (in the truest sense of the world). They feared the corrupting influence of external, lesser races/cultures.

People who are that far out of the political mainstream of today are difficult to classify on a political spectrum in any meaningful sense. If you want to throw the Nazis in a bin, it's probably best to put them in the "rightist" one. Just like Stalin should probably be thrown in the "leftist" one. But neither label fits all that well.

Yes, they most certainly can be liberal and still be racist or anti-Semite. I'm agreeing with you, that bigotry is an element in both, left or right end of the political spectrum.

                        It's simple:

                        A racist against non-whites is right-wing.

A racist against whites is left-wing.

                        • To KH,

Which is why the left/right descriptor more often than not need the second axis of liberty(anarchy)/authoritariansim(statism) to more clearly define their philosophy.

I personally find those describing themselves as liberals these days as an ends and means for nothing more than big government (statism.)

                            • I'm liberal and I do not agree in bigger government for all issues.

Also, I forgot to mention that another form of bigotry, homophobia, is a strong element among blacks and Hispanics - liberal or conservative.

But you do advocate for it none the less. And in advocating for a larger governmental role you expect a smaller individual role or simply one that needs to comply with a governmental edict. No?
