The consensus seems to be that we have too much on our plate. This is not surprising. Her and I are going to sit down tomorrow and figure out how much we can really do with the time we have available.

Plan more than one trip to cover all these sites with at least two days at every non-urban site. (If you like to hike, then 3 days for the big parks.) Allow for realistic travel time between sites w/1 hour for each 50 miles. This allows for setup and teardown at destinations and for meals and light diversions along the way. Pick one for this year, and go on others if things develop that way. Plan to enjoy these trips! No matter where you go, there you are. - Buckaroo Banzai

If you drive to Utah just to see the great salt lake, count on major disappointment. It reeks.
If you there, go to the mountains just east of SLC. I wouldn't even do that though.Life is not measured by the number of breaths you take, but by the moments that take your breath away.

The lake doesn't reek, the rotting vegetation on the shoreline reeks. If you go out to Antelope Island, you don't get that reek........ as much.
The island is the only reason to go near the lake, actually.
Buffalo Burgers FTW.
ACK!Don't try to confuse the issue with half-truths and gorilla dust!

There was very little snow in the mountains in a June, but it was pretty. The south is something like Wyoming, rock formations.Life is not measured by the number of breaths you take, but by the moments that take your breath away.

If you know someone who lives in or near San Francisco, that's one of the best summer destinations in the west. Not usually hot, and a truly remarkable city. Not cheap, however, unless you can crash on someone's floor.
Not as up on Seattle, but it may be similar to San Francisco as long as you have bud or buds to put you up.No matter where you go, there you are. - Buckaroo Banzai

Shouldn't this thread be merged with Asher's thread on spontaneous trips. I think so.Which side are we on? We're on the side of the demons, Chief. We are evil men in the gardens of paradise, sent by the forces of death to spread devastation and destruction wherever we go. I'm surprised you didn't know that. --Saul Tigh

Lake Havasu in summer...oh that is the place to be.
Vegas has some decent prices, and you can go there with $300 and still have a great time, who needs a hotel room when you've got a perfectly good car to sleep in. Just fine a nice hotel's parking garage, hope no one realizes your there by parking near a big truck/SUV. Gamble on Fairmont street at the cheap casinos, get free booze while you gamble, and get great cheap food."The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the Blood of Patriots and tyrants" Thomas Jefferson
