I hear this "homosexuality is OK, but only private" thing very often.
But it's either ignorant or cruel. As you are heterosexual you can assume more or less that every girl has the same orientation as you do. Heterosexuals don't need to make parades and to stand out, because they're the default, because nearly everyone is hetero. Gays need parades, their own bars, their own libraries etc to meet each other. Not everyone likes bars, clubs, discos etc. A gay parade is perhaps the only time and place where gays can meet each others openly as a group.

Why not give gay people their own city somewhere. I'm sure most countries could spare a city to give them. Then they would be the default in that city.

It's a nice idea to some extent, but, unfortunatelly, gays do not breed. Gays are being born in heterosexual families. Amassing gays in one place means less gays elsewhere, and even bigger allienation of the next generation.
Also, how do you imagine a 15 yo boy saying "Mon, dad, could we uh move somewhere closer to Gayville?" Also, how could gays leave all their friends, and families? Unfortunatelly it's not possible.
