  • Buying and Keeping a Gerbil

Ok, so I have decided to buy a gerbil. I'm going to put him in a nice big box on my computer desk, which is next to my bed.

While I live in Singapore (30C 100% humidity), my room can be quite cool (about 25C, little humidity) throughout the day and night.

So I'm just curious how to look after these things, I don't want him/her to get bored or go nuts inside the box, so what should I put in there to entertain? Also what do they like to eat, how often should I feed it and should I bring it out to run around or is that a bad idea?

AND... should I get a female or a male? And should I get more than 1? I heard these things are social, I figure I should get 2.

My son has two of them, and they're pretty low maintenance. He and his mom take care of them, so I can't give you a comprehensive guide, but do save your toilet paper rolls (the cardboard part once the paper is gone ). They love those, both as tunnels and something to chew on.

Damn, I just watched a video of some gerbils, that's not what I want.

I forget the name, they don't really have tails and when they sit down, they sit like a fat man eating pizza on a couch that is too soft.

Large snakes are very good company for gerbils.

Ferrets make good friends for gerbils too.

My son had a hamster before he got the gerbils. My wife much prefers taking care of the gerbils, though I don't know specifically why.

It figures that El Ghey Diablo would post in a thread about gerbils.
