But the reality is that black people are far more likely than whites to be impoverished.

Who's denying this? I'm trying to explain how black people can help themselves. And this type of initiative is PRECISELY the wrong thing to do. We've seen decades and decades of black "community leaders" trying to build majority black enclaves where black people live and work in black-owned businesses, catering to black customers. The reason this makes me angry is that it's so obviously bad for the black community, whose welfare is so much lower than the welfare of other communities in the US.

That black businessman is far more likely to have childhood friends or family members that are poor if not himself, than another white businessman.

    And?

Why is it wrong to help out poor people?

So in your estimation the best way to help the black community if you are a black person is to:

    1) Preferentially visit black businesses despite the fact that this is welfare destroying (in other words, it would be MORE EFFICIENT TO SIMPLY HAND CASH TO THE BLACK BUSINESSMAN!)

    2) Hope that this black businessman (who is presumably relatively well off compared to others in the black community) decides to give some of the money to his poorer relatives

WTF? Do you realize how stupid this is making you sound? Note that I've only described the actual welfare loss. There's also the additional tax wedge at every point in this process.

Um maybe you guys have ignored pretty much every single post I have ever made on Apolyton (much less this thread before this ****storm) but to reiterate

I live in Camden, Arkansas, which in 2000 was 50% black and has gotten moreso in the past ten years. My high school graduating class was two thirds black.

This is a map of black percentage of population by county, I live in one of the dark red counties in south Arkansas.

      In short: Please.

KH what do you not get

about all other things being equal

I'm not saying black people should pay black restaurant owners $100 for a french fry

I'm saying that if the black businessman and the white businessman both sell burgers for $3, people of any race that are concerned about their country or social justice should buy from the black guy

I find "buying (stuff from your home country)" less objectionable than "buying black", "buying white", "buying jewish", "buying non-jewish" etc, because we are organised in states, not in races and descendances, and it's not evil to be patriotical. "Buying american"
is patriotical, is in one's own interest and interest of most of people of USA.

                  Anyway,
buying black is surely racist. I wouldn't mind it if it wasn't becoming an organised action.

This is a common fallacy in discussions about economics. There are NOT two suppliers with exactly the same price, quality and convenience. There are multiple suppliers with varying prices, qualities and conveniences (each of which can be different for different consumers, and can have a different weight associated with it). If nobody has a colour preference then the decision on which supplier to use is based on some individual optimization choice. There is a discrete difference between the best supplier and the second best. When behaviour is changed by an individual choosing a second (or less) best supplier due to colour preference then there is a finite welfare loss EVEN IGNORING THE LOSS TO THE ORIGINAL SUPPLIER.

If you can find any post where I have said self-segregation was not occuring in Camden, you win. Go.

You're living in a community which is a prime example of urban decay and black poverty, and your response is to ignore it and continue the same failed policies that made it that way. Great job.

The OP is essentially racist and anti-competition - i.e. a quasi form of 'protectionism'...

Still, I don't see it being too much of a problem if 'do-gooding whiteys' decide to embark on this experiment as it will unlikely ever be anything more than an extreme minority movement, so meh...

Also, the funniest thing is that if the businesses they 'patronise' (very apt word in this circumstance) ever found out their true motivations - I doubt they would actually be very grateful themselves.
Is it me, or is MOBIUS a horrible person?
