I'm just having fun making rah backpedal from his original statement that without exception he complains about Indian call centres.
Indeed. I only have a problem with bad Indian call centres.
I think Indian call centres may have initially been a victim of their success as they rapidly ran out of their quality personnel in the face of overwhelming demand. Lately there has been something of a backlash, which I believe racists and nationalists have used for their own agendas.
Now I think the Indians have upped their game somewhat recently because they realise they can't afford to, in effect, bite the hand that feeds, and again there will now be a slow and steady shift towards India as foreign firms actually make the effort to check whether they're getting a decent service...

I have not backpedaled. I have elaborated.
I have repeated
But, after saying all that, I'd be foolish to say that my dislike for foreign call centers had 0 impact. But I don't believe it has ever been the determining factor.
So i don't see how you qualify that as backpedaling.

At my previous firm, one of the new-hire new-grad developers made a comment within earshot of upper management that the best kind of job security is provided by not commenting one's code. He was fired.
Dude, I make this comment all the time. I came up with it on my own. What a ****ing ripoff.
Top 20 things likely to be overheard if you had a Klingon Programmer:
1. Defensive programming? Never! Klingon programs are always on the offense. Yes, offensive programming is what we do best.
2. Specifications are for the weak and timid!
3. This machine is GAGH! I need dual Pentium processors if I am to do battle with this code!
4. You cannot really appreciate Dilbert unless you've read it in the original Klingon.
5. Indentation?! - I will show you how to indent when I indent your skull!
6. What is this talk of 'release'? Klingons do not make software 'releases'. Our software 'escapes' leaving a bloody trail of designers and quality assurance people in its wake.
7. Klingon function calls do not have 'parameters' - they have 'arguments' -- and they ALWAYS WIN THEM.
8. Debugging? Klingons do not debug. Our software does not coddle the weak. Bugs are good for building character in the user.
9. I have challenged the entire ISO-9000 quality assurance team to a Bat-Leth contest on the holodeck. They will not concern us again.
10. A TRUE Klingon Warrior does not comment his code!
11. By filing this bug report you have challenged the honor of my family. Prepare to die!
12. You question the worthiness of my code? I should kill you where you stand!
13. Our users will know fear and cower before our software! Ship it! Ship it and let them flee like the dogs they are!
14. Our competitors are without honor!
15. Python? That is for children. A Klingon Warrior uses only machine code, keyed in on the front panel switches in raw binary.
16. Klingon programs don't do accountancy. For that, you need a Ferengi.
17. Klingon multitasking systems do not support "time-sharing". When a Klingon program wants to run, it challenges the scheduler in hand-to-hand combat and owns the machine.
18. Perhaps it IS a good day to die! I say we ship it!
19. My program has just dumped Stova Core!
20. Behold, the keyboard of Kalis! The greatest Klingon code warrior that ever lived!

That is an excellent point. The same think happened 20 years ago in Nebraska.
A couple of companies moved the call centers there because there unemployement was high and their accents are pretty neutral. Cheap and quality reps. Their success stories were trumpeted and lots of companies started moving their call centers there. Omaha became the call center capital in the US, so the competition for good reps increased and salaries skyrocketed. Costs went up and quality went down. The number of call centers there is now is considerably lower.

physics and maths degrees lead to sloppy, ****ty code. If it's not in Fortran or C, they **** right off.
Sometimes they can lead to complex, efficient, unmaintainable code, but people with technical degrees are generally smarter that other people. Don't worry, I have a degree in applied comp.sci in economics.

The thought of letting any physicist code anything other than a testing program before handing it off to real software people is hilarious to me.
If you hand the same computing task to 4 physicists you'll end up with 23 different programming solutions, each of which is only valid in a certain region of parameter space, 12 order of magnitude calculations and 3 analytic solutions (to a problem which demonstrably has no analytic solution).
The total number of words of plain English you will receive describing or documenting the solution: 0
I hate Indian call centers because I find it confusing when I'm on the phone in a cab. I don't know which one is talking to me.
