CH has a valid point, Asher. Disagree with their personalities/politics/whatever, that's fine. But both Dale & Blake did fine work in the mod community, improving the Civ franchise. No need to belittle that based on their personal qualities.

The only "belittling" I've done is a reality check for Blake's contribution. There's a massive difference between writing an AI system and tweaking an existing one. It's the difference between a mechanic and a mechanical engineer.

Didn't know it was a pissing contest, nor is it about contribution to the gaming community when all I give a **** about is the non-gaming community in the OTF.

My point is his contributions or non-contributions to a game doesn't matter AT ALL in the off-topic forum. It's wrong for people to fellate certain posters who post stupid things in the OTF just because they think they're untouchable Gods for their work on games, even if these posters aren't capable of understanding the scope or impact of the perceived work.

Until someone sets up an alternative residence for poly OT-ers to hurl unrestricted non-civ banter at each other, and everyone migrates there, the game still matters. The two are NOT separate.

Asher, the website is a community - and one based on Civ. However much crap Blake posted on the OT about his personal beliefs does not denigrate his work on the game. You might choose to belittle him as a mere modder rather than a core designer/implementer on the grounds that "anyone could have done that". The fact is that anyone didn't do it - he did. In fact it's not true to say that anyone could have done it. Yes, you could have - because you are a highly intelligent and technically able bloke - but you didn't. Even a player of modest intellectual resources who posts a worthwhile strategy, analysis, or modification which enhances the civ experience of the community has made a valuable contribution.
