Because I am not stating my theory as accepted fact, obviously as there is room for doubt on both sides. However, what I am saying is that, given the various known accounts of the time, it is at least as likely an explanation of how the name 'America' came about, if not moreso.

You however, blindly suck up the accepted account without any question - just like you would have when it was accepted fact that the Earth was flat...

Why should one not accept the accepted account if there is no real proof in any other direction? That's like saying I shouldn't accept evolution because "there is room for doubt on both sides" with respect to intelligent design (and before you start, evolution is the "accepted account", which is why it is taught in every single public school in the US).
