I was obviously talking about replacing the F-22 with the F-35 in the F-22's air superiority role, where the F-35 is very much the "less capable" aircraft. Stop being a twit.

The answer is no, before you have to google that.

Yes, I would certainly have to Google information like that...

If you meant only in an air superiority context, you should've said that.

I'm not convinced it's worth the cost, and apparently neither is your secretary of defense.

Hook up some cheaper F-16s with remote control and go nuts on the air defenses. Who cares if they get blown up, will still be cheaper than the F-22 and no one will die.

The whole concept of manned fighter plans is dying anyway.

Pretty soon we can get rid of the entire armed forces and deploy vast armies of robots. Seriously. And yes, someone will hack them and they'll gain sentience and it'll be the end of days, but what a way to go.

The Marine Corps has gone heavy on the tilt rotor V-22 Osprey for Helo's

We have several squadrons already stood up here at McCutcheon Field (Marine Corps Air Station New River)

And several pilots have lost their lives, I lost a friend Major Brookes Gruber during the training phase

My point is every aircraft ever built has had its share of problems

I am also saddened by the F-22 program coming to a halt.

This means for a new aircraft, start back over.

Like it will be any cheaper now to build a different craft.

You just have to ask yourself how these cost over runs happen.

One can deduce that this was known, but wagered it would be, as the old adage goes, Easier to ask forgiveness than ask permission

Just go with hand stuck out and say we need more money to continue.

Makes me frustrated that this is the way it goes.

Stopping the F-22 (moving quickly toward drones)

Stopping the VH-71 (typical Christmas tree military contract)

Orienting the U.S. military toward COIN
I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891

              DanS knows where it's at.

The rest of these clowns think the days of $200M fighter jets is reasonable or sustainable. All of the advanced features to make the F-22 more survivable is quickly outweighed by massive amounts of drones you could build for the same money. It's retarded.

We should reduce the Air Farce significantly.

The Navy should do less ship buying and stop retiring ships early. (I don't care about the "industrial base". That's a stupid argument...and the Navy is not there to keep shipyards in business.)

USA needs to be reduced in size so we stop so much overseas stuff. But also need to have it's gear fixed and replaced.

USMC exists to do expeditionary warfare and be strapped for money. They are where they belong.

Oh...and no more damn family service centers or married troops. Military is not a nanny.

Yes, retarded. However, such expenditures are wholly sustainable, even if unreasonable. Also, those drone squadrons are damn expensive too. A squadron of 24 UAVs has about 500 personnel.

You're irrationally exuberant about the prospect of UAVs taking over the air superiority role. They're still a ways off.
