I don't know why he saved my life. Maybe in those last moments he loved life more than he ever had before. Not just his life - anybody's life, my life. All he'd wanted were the same answers the rest of us want. Where did I come from? Where am I going? How long have I got? All I could do was sit there and watch him die.
ahh april fool's. Kind of a silly holiday. not really a holiday I know. I generally piss people off because I am serious in real life, and people don't suspect me joking. I've been called an ******* on april fool's before. Got my friend earlier when I told her I quit my job to become a male stripper. I don't normally joke around, so she really thought I quit my job (or was just playing along to be nice). Although quitting my job would be nice... like I have to do to join the navy... just haven't gotten around to it yet...
problem is I kinda like my job even though I am in some personal life situations I don't care for because of it.
So the real question is, can I quit? You'll have to stay tuned for the next installment of dis' emo drama. only kidding. though I may actually be emo...
but I think leaving the navy was a big mistake sometimes... but other times I think I gained some valuable life lessons I would not have gotten only being around men. I had almost no contact with women the entire 8 years I was in the navy (not counting relatives). Other than a hello at the grocery store. But then again, I had no real problems in the navy, other than lonliness, which I still have. So... navy here I come?
What ship were you on again? Most ships have had females on them for at least a decade, nearly all of them do now.

Enterprise and Guam. One was retired. The other hadn't been retrofitted for women.
Not to mention my rating did not allow women when I entered. Though I think they started allowing female nukes by the time I left. But they still couldn't apply for sub duty of course.

as you could have guess, I have not joined the navy.
I was looking at my recent social security statement, and realized how little I made in the navy. Like $14000 my first full year. Though I think that only counts base pay. It really isn't worth it unless you do the full 20 and get pension. As my social security checks will be lower because of the low base pay. I think it's too late for me. I need knee surgery, as I really cannot run anymore. Perhaps if I did the knee surgery... But other than that cardio problem, as I said, I am the strongest I have ever been.
I still have a whole host of problems, but I will try to refrain from discussing my personal life here. It's self centered behaviour, and I apoligize. All I'll say is I'll try not to be pressured from expectations of family and society about how I should live my life. I am thankful for what I have. But still sometimes wish I could meet expectations noted above. that is all.
Perhaps if I had changed ratings like I thought about at the end of my 8. As I no longer wanted to continue in the rating I was in. I wanted to work with electronics and stuff. But it just didn't seem like that was going to happen. It would be nice not to have to worry about being laid off, and have that pension at age 38. But oh well. I was unhappy with getting paid less than married guys because I was single. And there are things I wanted to do, but couldn't do in the navy (as a single guy). Like buy a house, and get a dog. And settle down. and sadly, yes. The main reason I think I got out was for more time to play computer games. Going without civ2 during the cruise(s) wasn't easy.
I am not sure what things were like back then, but if you were to join right now as a nuke recuit you would automatically put on E-4 upon finishing boot camp. An E-4 under two makes 21936 base pay. I can't remember off the top of my head, but a nuke signing bonus is on the order of 10K off the bat.

Sometimes I wonder if I should have stayed in the army, did my 20. I joined the day I turned 17, would have had my 20 in at 37. Don't know how it work but assume retirement pay starts after 20?
I was too young though, not focused enough.

If you retire at twenty, you will get half of whatever your base pay was at eighteen. They have that two year difference becasue most officers put on O-6 at twenty, thus they either get to keep you for another two years so you can retire with that rank's pay or they don't have to pay you that much for retirement.
I think that is BS, but it is what it is.
BTW Dis, a nuke recurit (auto promote to E-4 after bootcamp) makes 21000+ the first year out of boot camp. Thats not including their nuke recruiting bonus.
