    Cars from California.

A lot of Toyotas and GM cars & trucks are made here too.

Come to think of it Toyota, Honda, Nissan, and Hyundai all have their North American headquarters here and their design studios.

Why the **** must you lie?

At the very least (and I don't know about the others), Toyota's North America engineering, design, and manufacturing headquarters is in Kentucky.

        Cool

Too expensive for me still, and I want a wagon, but still

the $49,900 Model S can carry five adults and two children in quiet comfort
Hold the phone. 5 adults + 2 kids in child seats? In a sedan? What am I missing here?

Is it possible that the cost'll will go down when they increase mass production? Or would that require another model in the uncertain future.

I'm wondering whether/when will this become a viable alternative for normal cars.

Well, I did say a few months back that electric was the future...
Is it me, or is MOBIUS a horrible person?

I guess it is not their corporate headquarters and instead it is "Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A. Inc." based out of Torrence, CA.

Maybe the kids are in the trunk. What parent hasn't thought of doing that on a long road trip?

They said nothing about child seats. The kids are chloroformed, covered in bubble wrap, and stuffed in the trunk for the 300-mile journey. They're given 45 minutes to work out the kinks at every rest stop. That's the only way you'll get "quiet comfort" with two kids in one car on a trip.

                    EDIT: Oerdin, you bastard!

Go figure -- all of the real jobs are outside of California, but the snakeoil salesmen make their HQ there. Don't brag about that.

Oh, I don't know. There website lists lots of jobs in the $50k-$100k range so they can't be that bad. Toyota financial Services is also listed at the same address.

This car has two trunks. One in the front under the hood and one in the back. The one in the back can be converted into two small seats. The seats face one another.

The car has tons of room because it is much simpler than an internal combustion engine car.
I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891

That doesn't seem at all safe in the event of an accident (I'm thinking whiplash).

I've heard that's how it works, but haven't heard it directly from Tesla.

I agree with the safety concern. But thanks for the info, Dan. Now I get it. It's like those old station wagons that had fold-down seats in the back.
