Kill me, but I liked Lost in Translation

Downfall and Memento were great too

I also liked Hurt Locker, the only issue I have about with it is that many american soldiers who fight or used to fight in Iraq say on the internet that the behaviour of the main character is unrealistic and ridiculous.

All those praising Traffic might want to check out "Traffik"- the original TV mini-series it was adapted from. It's very good.

              The best movie ever made.

Just saw Donnie Darko in its entirety for the first time, it wasn't half that bad and might make the list.

The Admiral is probably the most outstanding foreign film since Das Boot!

I am SHOCKED that bc1871 didn't say THIS was the greatest movie of the century:

Passchendaele! Britain needed heroes and they called up the Canadians!

And whoever claimed Babel was good is a LIAR! That movie was garbage and shockingly boring. I couldn't get past the part with the mute Koreans or whatever was wrong with them.

Another vote for Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. All the more remarkable because I have a nearly-uncontrollable urge to punch Jim Carrey in the face every time I see him.

Wow, it seems even the Russians can afford some special effects these days.

Remembered another nice movie from the 2000s:

Now I’ll admit that the film had amazing attention to detail, and superb combat scenes….one small part of the plot, ruined the whole film for me.

When the lead finds out that the woman he is seeing is of German ancestry, being a good officer of the crown he should have immediately tossed her to the curb, rather than continuing his scandalous affair. The fact that he continued to see a woman who was (to quote the film) “Born under the cloud of the German Empire”, would have been a mark of dishonor on him and his regiment.

Historical films and political correctness must never cross paths….and in the instances in which they do, the viewer is always set up for extreme disappointment.

This thread has mostly served as a reminder of how few movies I actually get around to seeing. I like caper flicks, comedies, scifi and such, and make no apologies for the guilty pleasures included here. So this is what I've seen the past decade that I would recommend, in no particular order:

                                Bottle Shock
                                High Fidelity
                                Big Fish
                                A Good Year
                                Erin Brockovich
                                A Beautiful Mind
                                The Prestige
                                Wonder Boys
                                Serenity
                                Inside Man
                                The Bank Job
                                A Scanner Darkly
                                The Italian Job
                                The Bourne trilogy
                                Almost Famous
                                Sideways
                                Ratatouille
                                The Incredibles
Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl
                                Forgetting Sarah Marshall
                                Bend It Like Beckham
                                Chocolat

Plus, of course, LOTR trilogy and several comic book hero flicks.
                                Apolyton's Grim Reaper 2008, 2010 & 2011
RIP lest we forget... SG (2) and LaFayette -- Civ2 Succession Games Brothers-in-Arms
