Japher - contrary to conventional opinion (something about self-absorbed egotism, or some such...), the main reason is that it is easier to spot an all caps name when you're scrolling posts in a thread.

And yes, in part it is because I am a gay tw@t. The fact that my username effortlessly incorporates utilitarian practicality proves that regular CG posters are indeed smarter than polytubbies...
