The sympathy will be limited by the truth or by your acting ability. A "full beard" is not a single choice. You can grow it long and unkempt, just never shave. The ladies generally are not drawn to that. You also can trim it so that the whole beard is only 1/4 to 1/2 inch long. This has the maturing effect without the unkempt side effect. The young man in Tuberski's picture has trimmed too much. Stick with your own growth pattern minus any hangout single hairs. If you go full beard, go with a mustache. Otherwise you will look Amish, no matter what tee shirt you wear. Look again at Tuberski's example. Bad!

I think you should wait for Lefty Scaevola's advice on this one

I usually have a stubble, although I do shave it off now and again...

        Nice timing.

If you have dark hair, go for a goatee. Once I grew this bad boy over Christmas, I found a job in my field. My only explanation for this post-clean shaven life is that it makes me look older and more commanding.

Unless your handy with a regular razor, you'll need a beard trimmer if you want to make it look decent. I really can't stress that enough.

Not bad, Riesstiu. Wouldn't make me do a double take, but if we met, I would expect a degree of maturity from you. (The fact that your posts contradict this is not directly related to your appearance. )

Thankfully, my online persona is nothing like my real life personality. If it was, I'd probably be imprisoned for crimes against humanity.

I grew a beard this winter. I bought a trimmer and keep it pretty tidy. It does make me look a bit older (so others say), but not dramatically so.

Having a beard =! not shaving (or trimming). It requires upkeep, unless you want to look like the unabomber.

I have a similar problem, except that I look twelve no matter if I shave or not.
I hope someday, when I'm 50 it'll help me to look younger than ya'll mother**ckers

You wish. I was fortunate enough to look older when younger and now I look younger when older. I rule

I pulled that trick for awhile myself. How old are you, Provost Harrison?
