  • Is anybody doing OBAMA jokes yet?

Are any of the late night or comedy central talk show hosts doing OBAMA jokes yet. I ask because we usually have Letterman on whe we go to sleep and Letterman is such a fan of the ONE that he doesn't seem to be able to make fun of the president. (this will eventually be a big liability)
He used to almost nightly do his great moment in presidential speachs to make fun of bush. The other night they tried it with Obama but used a good snippet instead of the usuall out take that he would for bush. When the bit was done, the joke was that there wasn't anything funny. So the bit probably wouldn't work anymore. Now if you can't selectively edit something that Obama said to make it sound funny, you're just not trying hard enough.
I have yet to hear him make a joke about Obama that made fun of him.
Yet, every night he still does Bush and Chaney jokes. Granted even I find a lot of those jokes funny but come on. They're not even in power anymore. It's getting silly. How long can those continue?

My question is how are the other comedians handling it. Is Obama still in a honeymoon period? I dont' regularly watch SNL, Stewart or many others so I was wondering what they're saying. (I'm not talking about the right wingnuts)

And if he is in a honeymoon period, what's it gonna take before it's over.

Stewart is making Obama jokes, and I'm glad. I would be disappointed with him if he didn't.

As if my disappointment means anything.

I've seen Stewart make fun of him a few times already. Mainly mocking the "he's so dreamy" thing.

Yes, agreed, I'd be most dissapointed if Stewart didn't.

Anybody else. Is SNL still stuck doing palin jokes?

There was an interview with Will Farrell in the Washington Post recently, and he came up with the best explanation for why Obama doesn't inspire jokes the same way Bush did: Bush was Homer Simpson, while Obama is Lisa Simpson.

That illusion can't last forever. What will it take. No president is or should be immune to talk show abuse. Epecially late night.

Around the holidays, I tried looking for a nativity set that depicted the wondorous birth of The One. But alas, to no avail so I settled for buying the traditional Jesus Christ nativity set.

I don't think it's an illusion, I think its just an observation that some people's (or cartoon characters) traits aren't as funny as others. Bush was Homer, and Obama is Lisa, and Homer's just funnier. Obama's basically a stiff; in the comedy of life, he's Abbot rather thanCostello, Pinto rather than Bluto or Flounder, Oliver Douglas instead of anyone else from Green Acres. To the extent Lisa (or Abbot, or Pinto, or Mr. Douglas) is funny, the humor comes from her reacting to other, funnier characters. My bet is that when SNL finally begins grinding out Obama skits, Obama won't be the funny character; he'll be the Lisa-esque straightman to characters with really funny potential, ranging from Rahm Emmanuel to Ahmadinejad.

It's only been 3 weeks, dude -- still the honeymoon period in the mainstream. But yeah, Stewart has been mocking him for lots of "not really a change" stuff, plus of course the tax issues with seemingly every cabinet nominee.

Last night's Daily Show piece was on Wall St. basically crashing again after the stimulus announcement be Geithner. Hodgman was on and he was (typically) brilliant, doing a bit on how the obvious lack of confidence in the plan is infectious, and the only way to save the economy is to declare an Emergency Christmas.

Colbert, of course, is skewering the new admin regularly as well.

                          That's still on?

And yeah, seems like the ears are a total natural for mockery.

Yeah, but MadTV isn't even remotely funny.
