You think it's bad in London? Up here in the Shire we're had perhaps a foot of snow which seems to have caused every BMW 5-series or Honda Civic in Northampton to make the acquaintance of the crash barrier.

Snow is great! Free days off work for a start - I've been watching back to back episodes of the Wire, which is excellent.

On a more serious note I think it's bad not much is cleared up for today, but can forgive yesterday. I don't think I've ever seen that much snow and it's not worth the huge investment it would take to be totally snow proof for such an infrequent event.

Completely agree! Got to spend the day in bed with the wife instead of going into work.

There are always people who moan about our inability to deal with snow. If they want to pay for the privilage of going into work on the once in a decade day where we can't due to snow then they should pay for it themselves. And I'll still take the day off!

Aside from the fact that those of us living close enough to the place of work to treck in on foot and keep the business going are making a selfless sacrifice for the team - the point is basically correct.

How much more do people want to pay on their daily tickets and taxes to have fleets of hundreds of snow-ploughs on perpetual winter availability and electrically-heated points at every junction of every railway line? All for a couple of days every several years.

Although, larger reserves of grit would probably be achievable though.

Only in Britain is a piece of curved metal attached to the front of something an unaffordable piece of 'infrastructure'.

Someone is going to freeze to death at some point, and then we'll go into full Bear Patrol mode. Probably starting with a Snow Tsar.

With or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion.

My opinions have changed slightly. I went back to work today, with my commute time doubled both ways, and a very treacherous walk to and from the station. It turns out that ungritted snow that has been on the ground and trodden on for 3 days is really really slippery.
