Why don't they do the Balkan thing, and kill each other over it? No, wait, killing over mediocre real estate is more of a Middle Eastern thing, isn't it? Okay, then: why don't they do the Balkan thing and kill each other for no particular reason at all? Then there will be no conflict.

I see no GOOD solutions in this thread. Croatia is right so long as right of passage for all nations is maintained. If Slovenia refuses to support Croatian entry into the organizations named, then the Croations should hire (without any official support) some of the Somalian pirates to act as a sort of privateer fleet to interfere in Slovenian traffic. I hear the pirates are looking for work now that all those warships are involved.

I thought the EU and NATO didn't take in countries with outstanding territorial disputes?

That's pretty much what Diplomacy is...

That said, I also disagree with ColdWizard; because Croatia extends around the 'horn' just a bit, that territory (at least to a point) is rightfully theirs, not Slovenia's.

The easiest solution is to take the 'corridor' and just extend it all the way to Slovenian waters (but not giving them the whole thing), and either give it directly to them, or call it International Waters. Either one really. If they want fishing rights, they should just negotiate with Croatia for fishing rights. Or invade Trieste, which should be part of Slovenia clearly...

                I have a good solution.

Everyone SHUTS THE **** UP and goes home because there's no actual problem here.

                  There's the rub.

If the Slavs what fish, gas and oil [if any] in waters now belonging to the Croats, the Slavs need to pay for these rights. Or maybe enter into a treaty whereby the Slavs and the Croats have the right of equal access to both these waters and also to the waters now belonging to the Slavs.

This seems to be a financial dispute, plain and simple.

By the way, the "corridor" on the map is not a legally existing corridor. It was part of an attempted agreement in which Croatia would cede the area claimed by Slovenia and extend international waters by the way of the corridor, keeping only the tiny triangle above the corridor in order to preserve a border with Italy. The solution is "interesting", however it never got approval in Croatia since she gains nothing from it.

International law is on Croatian side, so Slovenia is left with trade. There are some minor disputes over the land border also, so they have attempted to combine negotiations of the entire border (land+sea) into one package in order to attempt to trade land for sea. Opinion in Croatia is that sea is much more valuable (even though we have plenty of it ) so Slovenia ceding a couple of acres of disputed land won't cut it.

Slovenia was a vassal of the Austrian-Hungarian empire - well, we beat the **** out of their navy at Helgoland (if those english bastards hadn't interfered, we would have sunk them ), so it's quite clear - those areas are danish. Problem solved.

, that has been our territory since 1864, so it's lefty that has to proove his claim.

I'm not sure that the international court is any particular nation's territory, but if you want to try and enforce your right to it then I'll sit back and watch.
