  • He would be correct if he's pointing out that Plame was outed by Richard Armitage who, while technically a member of the Bush Administration, was on the outs and gave away Plame's identity due to carelessness and a desire to curry favor with members of the media rather than any desire to "**** on" her in retaliation for the actions of her and her husband.

I doubt that's what che meant, though.

Well, if you believe McClellan, Bush admitted face to face that he gave the order. That's a big if though.
      Unbelievable!

      • He might have given the order for Libby to do it, but Armitage had already beaten Scooter to the punch.

            • Well obviously he'd have to cease renditions, along with any other stuff they could burn him with.

There would be zero public support for prosecuting folks following orders.

For truly skeezy **** Obama is engaging in, see the habeas corpus issues wrt Bagram.

                • I understand why he did it but it is gutless. You can't say war crimes were committed, and Obama did, and then say no one should be punished for it.

                      • "We have been through a dark and painful chapter in our history," the president said.
I don't think it was so dark and painful, at least as far as the interrogations go. I think he's misreading the public's mood on harsh interrogations of terrorists.

                        • I wish Bush was still President. He would have prosecuted the CIA interogators as war criminals:

President Bush Sunday said, "We've got a game plan, a strategy to free the Iraqi people from Saddam Hussein and rid his country of weapons of mass destruction, and we're on plan."

Q Iraqi TV has shown what appear to be American POWs, and also what appear to be American dead. Your reaction?

THE PRESIDENT: I expect them to be treated, the POWs I expect to be treated humanely. And -- just like we're treating the prisoners that we have captured humanely. If not, the people who mistreat the prisoners will be treated as war criminals.
                          Ahem.

Maybe. If enough of the public thinks like you, perhaps he has.

Hey now, I didn't say he would cease renditions, only that he would have to to avoid the problem in question. Odds are his closing Gitmo and banning a number of our harsher interrogation techniques will only increase use of rendition under Obama.
