I've been assuming it's supposed to be a connection to Atlantis for a while now. Could be something like Avalon too I guess, but Egypt and the tech/magic on the island scream Atlantis.

The hatch glyphs actually meant underworld, not death, which has extra interesting connotations now that we know there is an extensive series of subterranean tunnels on the island.
I think maybe Locke is going to "kill Jacob" because that is actually what Jacob wants, to be free of his cabin prison. Maybe. Just talking out my ass, really.

My vote is that the island is Zorastrian, Jakob is Ahrua Mazda, and his opponent, who posessed Locks is Angra Mainyu.
Of course they'd need a Persian theme to pull that one off, but judging by 300 I don't think that Hollywood has the slighest idea of what ancient Persian culture is like.

And having her around makes Sawyer a better character since he can't just be an ass all the time. He was way too one-dimensional before hooking up with her.
