Does anyone remember the remake of Seven Samurai?

      The "Magnificent Seven".

Now that was what I'd call a masculine movie, to the extent of parody.

Oh yes, Jason Statham... he's good, I enjoy his effort. I guess he is a real action actor. But so far the list is lonely.

No. Not by a long shot. He wouldn't even make my top 100.

              How about:

Matt Damon - The Bourne Series (4th one comes out 2010).

Daniel Craig - Casino Royale was sick

Mark Wahlberg - Shooter, Max Payne, Four Brothers, Italian Job

Clive Owen - Sin City, Shoot 'Em Up, Inside Man, Children of Men

Hugh Jackman - "Wolverine" comes out next year

Russell Crowe - Look for a grittier Robin Hood in "Nottingham" in 2010

              Colin Farrell - He's still out there...somewhere

Bruce Willis - Still making movies; look for "Surrogates" next year (I played a dead SWAT robot, a dead FBI robot, and a dead businessman robot)

Maybe there aren't any "true action stars", but there are great actors who are making great action films.

Seconded. He could do wooden, emotionless, and spineless perfectly well - sometimes even all at once - but I've never seen him do "good" convincingly.

It shocks me to know that he was the one who got Johnny Depp his big break. It seems the protege has eclipsed his master.

We're all about Jude Law these days, like uuuh listen to my accent, look at my blue eyes and feminine features. NO! NO NO NO! Where are the dudes with testosterone, big guns and lots of blazing?! Saying things like "Let's get my laundry" or "let's go to eat" after a shooting event.
Sly ain't gone, I hear Rambo is quite good, really 80's non-pansy action.

Speaking of Law, Robert Downey Jr. has the action bit going, now... As onetime boxxer-turned private eye, Sherlock-something... (Not "Ace" Harding?)

Nicholas Cage is a Coppola, Talia Shire's son and Francis Ford's nephew. Its not like it was hard for him to get a connection for his good friend. Depp didn't learn acting from Cage (thank God, too - Depp is my idol).

Cage got Depp his gig on "21 Jump Street"?

Cage introduced Depp to his agent, who liked his look and attitude.

that is a very Depp-ish quote -- it has that "too cool for school vibe" that he exudes.

But I figure, I’ve pumped gas before, I’ve worked construction before. So, I could do it again, what the heck? It’s still miraculous to me that I’ve been able to stick around all these years."
