    Oh and of course I've totally been there before in Hera's place, and it did hurt, but everyone here who says focussing on someone who doesn't want to be with you stops you meeting someone you might be compatible with is totally right.

    In my case I think there could even have been an aspect of focussing on someone I knew I couldn't have in order to avoid the issue of going out to find someone more suitable. Once I got over the whole thing I realised girl #1 wasn't as amazing as I'd convinced myself of anyway.

    Anyway I 3rd or 4th the nomination to get out, meet other girls, date them if possible and see how it goes.

    And don't ask for advice about what to say to her here. Be yourself, and if that's not what she's into it's the wrong girl.

    I know this **** hurts though, so for that.

          Actually this isn't really true, I've found that women will only ever mention their boyfriend if you don't build up enough attraction and in that case they wheren't that into you to begin with.

                          Yeah, but I'm from NA where most women at least pretend to be faithful to their boyfriends.

                          In all seriousness, if they aren't mentioning their boyfriends to you it's probably because you're coming across as too non-threatening.

                            I think it is the issue that some men cheat a lot, other men cheat basically never, but girls do so more uniformly.

                            Because of the 'usual' passive role bit.

                                I think your explanation may fit the observations pretty nicely. I wonder has there ever been a study that dealt with a similar hypothesis? And did it confirm or deny it?
