i can't think of any words that suck, but 'odoriferous' is awesome.

phrase: "love the sinner, hate the sin"

used by well-meaning Christians who do not realize it's overly-patronizing and maybe even arrogantly self-righteous
A lot of Republicans are not racist, but a lot of racists are Republican.

Since I'm prepping for a Constitutional Law exam, the following have become my four most hated words:

                "undue"
                "due"
                "substantial"
                "compelling"
                Unbelievable!

There must be a compelling reason to do undue harm to your substantial law professor, then...

Don't make me exercise my broad discretion to select a means reasonably adapted and narrowly tailored, in the absence of reasonable alternatives, to the legitimate end of kicking your ass!

That reminds me, add the following to the list:

                    "reasonable"
                    "legitimate"

                    Unbelievable!

Of course it isn't. Mind you, my boss could have written it.

The very worse corporate bollocks phrase of all has to be

"getting all our ducks in line"

"Running ideas up the the flagpole to see how they fly" is quite vomit-inducing too.

I would be delighted if just once, someone where I worked managed to say "in future" instead of "moving forward".

Oh yeah, and any use of "leveraging" as a verb.

                      And did anyone mention "actionables"?

One of our clients asks us periodically to 'gin up ___ report' when she wants something impossibly difficult by noon (often noon TODAY). I don't like that phrase very much right now...

Does anyone else have to put up with "tasking" (the noun, not the verb -- as in, "I'm working on this tasking from the ambassador"), or is that just a State Department thing? As far as I can tell, there isn't even the subtlest of differences between what meant by "tasking" in wonkese and what's meant by "task" in good old English. So that's mine.

Otherwise, I believe I've ranted elsewhere about the modern workplace tendency to turn nouns into verbs ("I'll memo you about that by the end of the week!" Die, die, die!). Hate it.

                            I don't think that's a modern tendency.

" real quick" at the beginning or the end of a sentence.

                              It's never quick or easy:

"help me paint my house, real quick"

"Real quick, can you help me move across the country."

                              ACK!
Don't try to confuse the issue with half-truths and gorilla dust!
