Ideal ending...

Harper's budget goes down. Iggy disavows the coalition. The GG dissolves Parliament and we have an election. Iggy wins a minority. Harper gets topped by the Tories. We have Liberal government for 12 to 18 months and then resume hostilities and life goes on.

Messy ending...

Harper's budget goes down. Iggy is forced into pressing on with the coalition. The crisis is resumed.

Harper demands dissolution. The GG says, eh, maybe not. Harper goes to London to have Jean dismissed, or her decision overturned. Harper said 'all legal means.' He meant it.

The government and the economy go into the crapper together, then God help us all. Boris would like it though, I'm sure.

More than anything else, we need reform of Parliament.

MPs must not be required to seek party approval for candidacy. The riding associations meet and pick a person. The central party and leaders can piss off.

Nobody other than MPs gets a say in interim, emergency, or replacement-temporary leaders of any sort. Those parts of the party constitutions need to be proscribed by federal law.

We have faced the prospect that the cabal of toadies at the top of the Liberal Party of Canada could have been choosing our prime minister 'in consultation with caucus.' Horsehockey!

I would hope a few more people may realise the problems with how the parties have corrupted the Westminster system after recent events.

a) You greatly overestimate the capacity of the Liberals to screw the economy.
b) any opportunity to rebuild from scratch is more than welcome
c) the only thing I can't imagine in the foreseeable future is a constitutional crisis. Unfortunate, because combined with a recession, it would be terrific.
