Yes, it's laowai, which literally means "old outsider" But it can be considered "venerable foreign-type person." I use it all the time with with Chinese here with interesting results.

edit: Apparently it is the other way around (Berber/Barbary comes from the roman use of the term Barbarian lands). More accurately, though, it means 'people who can't speak Greek' and apparently could be applied to Greeks who couldn't speak it well also.

I had gweilo in mind above. Foreign devil and barbarian both are cultural terms now cosidered to have somewhat different meanings. However, both terms are also distinctly racist. Thus, one does not have to be Indo-European as Elok posed in the OP.

In Chinese, "laowai" is Mandarin. "Gwailo" is Cantonese. They mean more or less the same thing.

If you want to get racist, there are terms like "dabi" (big nose) and "hongmao" (red fur) that describe Westerners.

I have been working in Korea for many many years now.

And I have to say, that of all the private academies, universities, foreign language high schools, in this country the official state-sponsored Elementary School textbook is the most disturbing.

I actually found its silly stereotyping to be quaint, like watching 'Song of the South' or something.

A few examples:
-There is a Grade 5 activity where the students divide into groups and choose a different country. They must make a simple costume, answer some questions (foods, etc). and do a sort of Parade of the Nations. Korea, China, Japan, England, America, Australia, and 'Africa' are the choices. The costumes for America are cowboy hats and six-guns, etc. 'Africa' is...grass-skirts and nose-bones. And the picture looks like something straight out of Tintin. And of course no team of kids want to be 'Africa' because they are 'torupta' (dirty)

-The Grade 3 character in the animated learning videos is wearing a sideways baseball cap and basketball uniform at all times. In the 'favourite food' unit there is a priceless scene where his Korean friend Min-Su orders only traditional Korean healthy foods (Kimchi, rice, that awful awful bony fish, chiggae, which judging by the crap I see kids eating on the streets nowadays is not really their main diet anymore) while 'Tony' just orders Fried Chicken and Watermelon over and over. It actually took an American teacher friend of mine to point this out since this black stereotype seems America-centric and was probably adopted by Korea from them same guys who imported Protestant Fundie-ism.

There's more but my fingers are cramped. The point is, it's all very innocent. Most students quickly learn within a few classes that a black teacher will not rape and eat them. That said, it takes a quite thick skinned sort of black teacher to make it here since he/she knows that the first few weeks will be interminable questions about their AIDs status, poking and prodding of their hair and flesh, etc etc. The poking and prodding of foreigners is not black specific (heaven defend you if you are a natural red-head in a Korean jjimjjilbang) but they seem to get treated slightly more roughly.
