Tis a pity she didn't want to be McCain's VP pick. She is the 3rd most powerful republican in the Senate and is chair of the RPC (Republican Policy Committee). She is a credit to the Republican party.

Japher- she was a cheerleader for the UT Football team back in the 60s. There should be a bunch of publicity photos of her from that time easily accessible on the internet.

                      More specifically, she's the SENIOR
                      Senator from texas.
She's been in office since 1992 I believe.

Who says she didn't want to? She issued one of those noncommittal "Not pursuing it" statements, but a lot of people do that to play coy.

Given McCain's "vetting" process, who knows what was going on. At least according to some conservatives, like Noonan, Hutchison was snubbed by McCain's team and never seriously considered.

I think it had something to do with:

                          - Different perspectives on Immigration. ...
                          - Old alleged corruption scandals or something of the sort around (93/94) Cleared, but could come back a la "keating five."
                          - Personality Clash in the Senate? ??? I don't think McCain and Hutchison were ever very close.
                          - Her wanting to go back home from DC; this Governorship race isn't a big surprise coming to people who've followed her career.

                            Hutchison

Of course she wouldn't want to be McCain's VP, she saw what was going to happen.

                            She'll make a good governor

She'll probably be the next Gov, though Perry has proven a decent ability to survive. If Perry manages to keep the nomination, that's a Dem pickup if they run a decent candidate (a higher caliber than Chris Bell). If not, Houston Mayor Bill White has a fine shot at her Senate seat.

                              - Different perspectives on Immigration. ...
They're both moderates on immigration. She wasn't picked because she's nominally pro-choice (even if she doesn't vote as if she were).
