If the judge rules for Chapter 7, then maybe he does so because it is the best path.

      RINOs like George W. Bush.
I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891

Can someone explain to me why Chapter 11 bankruptcy isn't considered an option?

Given the fact that it seems made for this scenario and has happened before with the airline industry that's not really an answer, Oerdin.

Why would you go for bankruptcy when Uncle Sugar is going to stuff money in your pocket?

I hate stupid people how continually ask the same questions which have been answered. They must be so annoying asking the same questions over and over.

But OMG it's like, totally more capital-intensive than airlines are, and stuff [/Oerdin]

Seriously, if you're going to put any thought to your zingers, it's best not to say anything at all.

It is more capital intensive and when airlines can continue running as long as they have airliners. Not so much with car companies. They must sell current stock to pay for future stock. If no one buys current stock then they're stuck.

                            • Funny, I thought that airlines needed to continue making payments to airports as well as on the leases on their aircraft.

                              • I was also under the impression that spare parts are routinely replaced on airliners. Silly me.
