Women - your weirdest experiences with the lovely ones
If she is a good woman, barring some special circumstances (such as being still in college), I don't see why there should be more than 1 year between starting to date and engagement.

Oh, I of course saw her again, since we went to the same college and everything, but she was only there for the semester and then she went back to South Africa. She's got a BF now and I've got my lady, so it's all moot at this point. Besides, as it turned out she was distinctly uncomfortable with religion of all kinds, and a vegetarian. Until my current GF I had a real knack for picking women I was totally incompatible with, it's mind-boggling. My lady's a nutty libertarian, but of the hopelessly-idealistic nobody-should-be-able-to-order-anybody-around variety, not the evil I-want-the-freedom-to-defraud-a-Walmart kind. So it's all good.

Indeed, I would quite probably marry quite a few of my friends if they suddenly magically turned into women while keeping their current personalities.
BTW:
We can agree that A girlfriend is a product of time
and money right?
Girlfriend = Time * Money
Your girlfriend is a woman!
Girfriend = Woman
Woman = Time * Money
We all know that time is money...
time = money
woman = money * money
woman = (money)^2
We also know that money is the root of all evil,
correct?
money = sqrt(evil)
woman = [sqrt(evil)]^2
Hence,
woman = evil
WOMEN ARE EVIL!!!

Modern man calls walking more quickly in the same direction down the same road “change.”
The world, in the last three hundred years, has not changed except in that sense.
The simple suggestion of a true change scandalizes and terrifies modern man. -Nicolás Gómez Dávila

I have actually generally been interested in women who aren't compatible with me as well.

Heraclitus, this is the best version of that joke that I ever saw. Most people start off with "women are time and money" (which should be addition) and then go straight into "time x money" which is incorrect.
You manage to nimbly leap over that particular pitfall with the surefooted grace of a Serengeti gazelle, and tell the joke the way it should be.
Seriously speaking, the weirdest thing I saw was this couple at the pub we used to go to outside Nottingham. To make a long story short, they'd argue and fight so nastily you'd think it a good idea to call the police, and then suddenly they'd stop and start getting off with each other like nothing happened.
On more than one occasion, while they were in the "screaming your head off" stage, somebody else might try to intervene, which only led to the couple directing their fury at the newcomer instead. I heard (but did not see) that one time somebody physically intervened, holding the man away, because they thought he was going to deck the woman. While they were doing that, the woman decked him, the intervenor.

From what I can see, someone who is compatible/etc is rare and should be grabbed up when found.

JM's already established that he's out of his mind. Amore useful comment might relate to what is a reasonable timeline. I like his, with the caveat that if that's not where the relationship is going after a year sit down with her and establish what is going on in terms of each other's expectations. Many weird experiences can come from not communicating clearly. Of course I have no idea as to whether either KH or JM have actually been engaged/married, etc.

Part of this is probably due to biology. Men have a longer window to make up their minds about having a family. Women always have the harsh reality that if they take too long, they may run out of time.
