I don't think there's been any fictional account of time travel that avoids such a paradox. The only way I can suspend disbelief is assuming there's some sort of split between parallel universes (as opposed to just timelines in the same universe's fourth dimension), such that the few weeks of activity in 1986 wouldn't interfere with his life after his 1978 return, or vice versa.

Without that assumption the incarnations will bump into each other in 1986 at the house, which will likely affect whether or not he ever gets to the ship and goes back in time, which makes his return to 1978 (and thus that incarnation's having lived a normal life for 8 years) impossible, which makes the incarnations' meeting impossible, which starts off an infinite feedback loop that destroys the universe. The End.

This video sums it up (around 6:40):

Also an ok-ish clip video on time travel paradoxes (around 5:20):

I think this will give them a great opportunity to do a song and dance routine together.

If Time Chasers isn't discussed, I've no interest.
