Not a politician so much as a loyal soldier. Which also has nothing to do with race, of course.

Being Secretary of State is in my opininion a political job.

Anyway, I agree that loyality doesn't have anythig to do with race.

It's a political appointment, but Powell was never a politician. He never ran for public office, and he was appointed based on his military background and experience on the Joint Chiefs.

Don't disagree, but it is a political job, and while he may be chosen on his military background, he wasn't acting as such. He was an "expert" politician and a part of the administration.

I have the impression one doesn't get to a high military rank without being a good politician.

This commentary might actually reduce recruitment in sub-saharan Africa.

I was about to respond the same way. We haven't hit the number one or the number 2 yet.

The al-Qaeda master strategist was transmitting a line for use by his recruiters when potential recruits respond, "Look, the US is now headed by the son of an African." Recruiter now has the party line, "But he is no more than a 'house slave' to his white masters -- a sellout." Pay attention, people.

I think Obama will be a much greater threat to Osama and his #2's than Clinton or Bush ever were. That's why this guy is so heated.

Clinton only did some half-assed attempts with cruise missiles. And Osama is Bush's best friend, helping him to win a second term, because Americans will be afraid of terrorists as long as Osama is running free. Winning a war did not help Bush Sr to get re-elected, so Bush Jr was not in a hurry to win the "war on terror".

Obama's very popular in Africa. This statement coming from al-Zawahri could hurt the image of radical Islamicists in Africa.
