What's a cool collected response to say... Iran invading Iraq? Iran doing their pre-pre-pre-preemtive strike on Israel? North Korea invading South Korea? China invading Tiawan? Russia invading Urkraine? What if Venezuela attacks... anybody.

With a "let's talk" president in office, what is going to stop these things from happening?

Anyway, I guess I'm just hoping that these things don't happen. I voted for him because it is quiet obvious that change is needed, and I feel the there will be a greater chance of change with Obama in office.

I just don't have to be happy about it.

That's actually ridiculous. You and everyone else here knows very well that any president is going to respond to those acts militarily within our capacity to do so.

That aside, none of those scenarios are even remotely likely in the near future. All of the players you mentioned either lack the capacity to carry out an effective military operation of that size, or have serious economic incentives not to do so.

They had a mock election at my son's school today. He's 10.

I think it's stupid because the kids have no idea who they are voting for. So they probably ended up voting for the candidate that is their own race, except my son voted for Obama.

To make a long story short some minority kids who ride the bus with him called him a racist for voting for McCain, even though he didn't.

I told him that I hope he realizes how stupid they are.

Setting aside the unlikelyhood of any of those things occuring, the point is to avoid those things if possible. If they happen, well hell, the response is very obvious (as Kirnwaffen pointed out). Sometimes, however, crises can be defused before they get critical (maybe by, you know, talking).

Talking =! wimping out. It's simply another tool in the President's arsenal. Soft Power + Hard Power. Carrot + Stick. It's not an either/or proposition.

If your son can't tell the difference between schoolmates with a tan and actual black people then he's in for a lot of trouble.
