  • Can legal action be taken against OPEC

They are a cartel, they are illegal in most western countires can we sue them if they hold back production to keep the oil price high
Space is big. You just won't believe how vastly, hugely, mind- bogglingly big it is. I mean, you may think it's a long way down the road to the chemist's, but that's just peanuts to space.

Monopolies in U.S. law are only illegal, in the United States.

      Short answer? No.
      Longer answer? No.

There is no world government... so no.

I mean, if we can sue OPEC, maybe Iraq should have sued the UN Security Council for monopolistic behavior .

Yes. If by "sue" you mean drop bombs

However you put it linguistically, if anyone with any clout could have figued out a way to sue them, they'd already be sued, would be being sued, and would be about to be sued. So, no.

Anyone can sue anybody for anything. That doesn't mean they'll win.

And it also doesn't mean they'd get any relief if they did win.

                        Interesting point:
The OP and likely he is not the only one, think some countries are
under duty to sell them oil.
                        Best regards,

I'll explain why I asked the question:

I have just filled the car up and it's ridiculous, even though it's a bit cheaper than a few months ago.

Then i read that OPEC are going to resrict production to maintain high prices- this annoyed me.

I do not for a second think that anyone is under a duty to sell me oil, however I do think that if the market is blamed for high prices and OPEC says they cannot increase production to meet demand when the price was around $140 that they should not reduce production when the price starts to drop.
