  • I can't believe he actually defended them.

    Where's the integrity?

I'm speechless, and at this point, I wouldn't vote for him if he was the only guy running.

    • Obama is no saint. He has run ads telling senior citizens that McCain will cut their social security with privatization. The difference is rednecks and seniors I guess.

Attacking an opponent based on policy is not remotely comparable to attacking an opponent as "not like one of us" and being a "friend of terrorists."

          • If if so, how is that relevant to a thread regarding inciting hatred using personal attacks? There is no equivalency here. Policy attacks are fair game in any election, nobody argues that. It's the personal crud that's the issue.

            • Those statements that his staff made are pretty bad. That doesn't seem like the McCain that defended Obama.

              • Why is Ayers not an issue worthy of examination? The only problem with this line of attack IMO is that he's starting it so late in the game.

Doesn't the buck stop with McCain?

Has McCain bothered to come out and correct those statements? Not that I've seen.

If he can't control his own campaign in this regard, his leadership qualities are very questionable, to say the least.

                    1. There's nothing to the Ayers story. Even Illinois Republicans have defended Obama on this.

                    2. McCain/Palin haven't used Ayers to show bad judgment, they've used it to attack Obama's patriotism. Palin said he "pals around with terrorists," and that he "doesn't see America as you and I do." The obvious meaning of these statements is "Obama is un-American."

                    • The people I know voting for McCain are one of the following:

                      1. Vote republican no matter what
                      2. Vote pro-life no matter what
                      3. Think Obama will ruin the country like Carter
                      4. Think Obama un-american

Groups 3 and 4 aren't reasonable. Groups 1 and 2 are just a bit fanatical, which is reasonable (on the outliers).

                      • The Keating Five are vastly more relevant, so I'll trade you one Ayers discussion for one Keating...any day, any time. (Obama was, after all, eight years old when his hippie friend was a radical, and the two were never involved in subversive dealings together. Their school won some awards tho...Contrast that with Keating and McCain's direct involvement with him....)

OH! I think we've discovered the secret of trickle down economics with the Keating thing though!

See...if you let the guy who's bribing you ALSO pay for your babysitter to come along on the trip....

Because guilt by association is generally a moronic way of thinking, and that is especially true in this case.

Unless you can show that Ayers are committing some sort of criminal activty at the time that Obama knew him and Obama assisted that activity, either by sins of commission or ommission, there is absolutely no worth to this story.

Given that him knowing Ayers, even having hanged out with Ayers, is a non-issue (Obama knows Chicago's Citizen of the Year 1997!! ), what he says about the relation is immaterial.
