That is part of the problem. Once these stupid propositions pass they're virtually impossible to repeal and you have the problem that anti tax people keep passing propositions to lower taxes while also voting on propositions which require new spending. That can't continue forever.

People seem to think, beyond all reason, that the government has unlimited money for every pet project but that they shouldn't have to pay any taxes. It's stupid.

Yeah Mississippi is a giant welfare case. They get back $1.77 for every $1 in taxes they spend. I say the rednecks should pay for their own damn bridges and stop sponging off of us.

The state isn't insolvent and can easily pay it's bills. Not surprisingly though the Republican governor is trying to talk the state's large number of Congressmen into demanding free money from the Federal government in exchange for agreeing to the Wall St bailout. A bailout we'll likely have to pay for more then most other states.

Yes, it is extortion but politicians excel at extortion.

There was a survey taken a year or two ago in California. Californians wanted no higher taxes but they wanted more spending on education, health care, police, fire fighting, roads, infrastructure, parks, etc., etc., etc. ...and in fact everything except prisons.

Arnold has apparently decided it is easier to attempt to extort money out of the Feds then to deal with the squabbling statehouse. "Give me money or we'll make sure your bailout doesn't happen."

I guess you don't need bailouts when you are regularly subsidized.

If you needed money wouldn't you go to the person who you've been giving money away to for it?

Today is a slow day at work. Not much to do so I'm surfing the net and waiting for the clock to say it's time to go home.

I'm not pissed off per say I just like rubbing it in their faces when they get uppity.

Besides $7 billion really isn't **** to a state with over a $1.7 trillion GDP (as of 2006). I still wish they would balance the damn budget but the state's budget is actually in pretty good shape compared to the Federal budget which is now going to have a $1.2 trillion yearly budget deficit.

That's bigger then the GDP of Spain which is the world's 8th largest economy!

Oh, and even if we got an additional $7 billion this year we'd still be far, far, far the biggest net taxpaying state in the union so suck it. Comparing us to a place like Mississippi.
