Wait, is it just me or do most blue states pay more in taxes than they get back and most red states that pay less than they get back?

Basically Arnold was trying to copy Britain's yearly EU rebate scheme. The problem was Thatcher could have directly torpedoed something several EU states wanted (the CAP) where as Arnold could not directly torpedo the Wall St bailout. Sure, he could try to convince the state's Congressmen to do what he wanted but the Congressional leadership really have more influence over Congressmen then a state governor does so Arnold's bargaining position wasn't as strong as Thatcher's was over the CAP.

Yes, that was the point several of us were making. We (blue states) pay while they (red states) suck up welfare. Arnold was trying to negotiate a way so that California would pay less to the Federal government in exchange for something the Feds really wanted (the Wall St bailout) but it didn't work.

I can't blame him for trying.

So if an ordinary thief gets caught, he's let go? After all, you can't blame him for trying.

Wait... It is theft if you try to use your economic position to negotiate a lowering of your effective tax rate? Wow, strange definitions from an anti-tax Texan.

I'm surprised California legislators didn't hold out on a rider. Would be typical.

Hmmm... Oerdin makes a pretty good pro-Arnold argument.

I heartily agree. I'm pissed off that I have to pay almost $3000 a year while my neighbor in a virtually identical house chuckles that she only has to pay $250 per year. Let everyone pay their own way rather then making young people subsidize older people.

I wish they did but like I said the national party and congressional leadership has more influence over congressmen then a state governor. If California could ever get all of its congressmen to vote as a block then we would have a fair amount of influence but it's like herding cats.

Maybe California needs a separatist movement. That seems to work for Quebec.

Think about social security reform when you think about prop 13.

The really evil think is when people, early on, transferred their houses to a corporation which they owned. Then, when they want to sell their house, they sell their corporation instead. There's no re-assessment because the corporation still owns the property.

Why an Executive needs a loan to pay for his services?
No longer exists the Law that said all public expenses should be on the passed budget, and so the money (US dollar bank notes) was
                              granted?
                              Best regards,
