not necessary in the current form... let's hope it gets better than it was, it was already a lot better over the weekend, so there are good chances it will be further improved... from temp crash nothing will really turn out, only if in the long run the proposed bailout is total disaster (as initial plan looked like) it will have long term consequences... this voting down - i like it.

They will probably suspend trading soon...

Politicians finally having backbone it is actually good instead of suddenly jumping off a cliff like that initial plan to shore up of fraudulent institutions with best connections.

I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. • The interesting thing is the Republican leadership agreed to the plan but the members revolted. Things have really changed from the days when the Republican leadership could get its members to vote in lock step. Maybe it's just election year politics though.

How big does it have to drop in what amount of time before they suspend trading?

                    • Are house prices going to fall? And by how much, if they are?

                        • NASDAQ down over 9%. They suspend trading at 10%, right?

Every Member event I sat in last week said that mail/calls/e-mails were running 90% against the bailout. It's not a surprise that conservatives, Blue Dogs, and those in tough races voted against it. They can at least say they were voting with their constituents.

                                Maybe?

You can be sure that many rank and file House Republicans had thier phone lines jammed with calls to oppose this ban, and given how tense of an election this already was for Republican representatives, doing something that the Republican base probably abhors would not have gone down well with the same voter they need in a little over a month now.

House members want to keep their jobs just like everyone else.
