              Contract administrator/ Construction Engineer.

Im basically an owners rep, so I yell at construction contractors for a living.

One on one dealing with a contractor and resolving issues is fun. All the boring paperwork that goes with it, not so much. So my job is OK, I like it, but I don't love it.

It pays the mortgage, and feeds my kids so there is no real major complaints

Boring contract to install doors on missile silos.

Not as fun as when I got to bounce around on different stuff, but kept me out of the layoffs.

Looking forward to putting all the ordnance training to use again. That was fun.

i run the re-mortgage section for a major law firm. it used to be a good job with about a dozen people under me. however, since the credit crunch, most of the people have been let go because there's no work on and now there's just two of us. i seem to waste most of my time on 'poly these days.

also because of how dependent the firm was on the property market, my training contract seems to have gone for a burton. words cannot express how ****ing furious i am about this.

And no, I've no desire to be an astronaut. I don't think you realize how boring being an astronaut actually is. It'd be nice to see the earth from space and experience zero-G, but it's not worth the crappy pay, the high fatality rate, the mind-numbingly boring training, the mind-numbingly boring labwork they do, etc. Hell, all they seem to do now is do construction in space and risk their lives to do it. I'll pass.
It's a descriptive term, yes. It's also a perjorative term to describe people in the programming industry in general, and get their ire up. Glad to see it worked

On the astronaut end ... I realize it's probably quite boring. But you GET TO SEE THE WORLD FROM OUTER SPACE. And, maybe, WALK ON THE MOON. This makes up for everything else ten times over.

You're damn right it does. It's like calling a mechanical engineer a mechanic. You just don't do it.

I think you overvalue that aspect. It'd be cool, yes, but not cool enough to risk and dedicate your life to it.
