  • Tell idot girl what website to get

Huej has been working long and hard helping me out and has said that the yahoo site I had would not support (and don't laugh if I get this wrong) Php and MySQ something or other. Anyway I need to purchase another site and I need to do it today.

So I need one that supports that. Any suggestions.
Welcome to earth, my name is Tia and I'll be your tour guide for this trip.

Godaddy.com is cheap and reliable. They have real, US-based phone support, too. Call them toll-free and tell them you need a site that supports PHP and MySQL, and that you're a small business that doesn't expect too much traffic yet.

If you don't have your .com address yet, you'll have to do that as well. A quick search shows the following are available:

Don't buy any online shopping stuff (shopping cart, merchant account, etc) yet. Just email to get you in touch with customers should be all you need to start.

Oh, and DON'T use Apollo Hosting. They totally suck.

If you go with godaddy be careful when you actually make your purchase. Their forms try to push a lot of services you don't need...all you should need is hosting and your domain if you don't have it yet. IIRC, there's a page after you start to check out that has a whole bunch of checkboxes for different services...there should be a 'no thanks, just check out' kind of button you can hit to get through it (or at least there used to be, haven't used them for a while now.)

          What Koy says is true.

I have found their phone support to be truthful, straightforward, and helpful. Just go online while talking to them and the phone support person will walk you right through the whole process in real time.

At least they did for me.

Don't use their default shopping carts, either. ZenCart's pretty basic, if you want to have someone install it for you, but there's also Magento out there.

But yes. If you're going to use their web interface, make sure you uncheck everything and always say no thank you to the insane amount of upselling they do.

She doesn't need a shopping cart function yet, Q3. She (anyone) needs to be selling some volume before making that investment.

Tia -- You should check with your businessman friend to see if he can hook you up to take credit card orders over the phone. Waiting for checks while baking pies is brutal.

Well, I mean, I'm sure she could find a neighbor kid, a friend, or even someone on these boards who'd help her out. Both ZenCart and Magento are OSS, and it's just a little customization and it works. But yes, at very low volumes like now, you can put off doing more complex things for a while.

YEs, yes and yes to every shipping question and pie question. I make my Anut June's (Junebug) Chocolate Cream Pie that will knock your socks off! Honey, it's like eating hot fudge with meringue on top!

Sloww you're going to be the first guine pig of sorts. The problem with this is that Mom's sugar cookies are very thin and delicate, that's the beatuy and the taste and texture of it all. So maybe with bubble wrap I'm going to have to think about it and shipping a chocolate cream pie......wait couldn't it be frozen after cooking it and shipped cold....these are things I need to consider and work out since I have to write a business plan this weekend.

So I take it that the general idea is that godaddy would be a decent way for me to go since I'm just getting started and they have someone who will talk to me. See for me being idot girl that's a big plus. Ok, so hubby and me will go and check it out and get one there unless someone comes screaming in and stops it all. **waits for Wiggy**

I'm really kind of nervous about tomorrow. The press lady from the driskill called me at work today. Freaked me out a bit but she's sending out a media call thingy and expects the paper to be there with a photo and writer person. Tis a pretty big deal I guess. Alrighty then off to get a website.
