one more turn markets are crashing

        &

Anantha Nageswaran, head of investment research at Bank Julius Baer, said: "The dollar rally over the last two months was unsustainable and it was brought about by short-term liquidation pressures by many hedge funds and because of a mistaken feeling that the US economic numbers had turned the corner."

dollar predicted to go back down again... will we see 2/1 with Euro soon? it's sort of funny and scary at the same time...
Yes, the dollar rally happened just in time to screw me as I had to exchange my Canadian dollars

The possibility that AIG will be bailed out seems to be supporting this market. AIG asked for the bailout in a piss-poor way though -- turning down the buyout offered yesterday and publicly demanding $40 billion in gov't help.

I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Sitting in my armchair, I assume that AIG imploding would hurt. Lehman perhaps not so much.

Wow, watching AIG fall is hypnotizing. -60.5%... -63.2%... -70.10%... -67.5%.

Watching the governor of New York beg the Fed for a bailout of AIG is pathetic.

Forgive me for being less than sympathetic. The tedious-ignorant-****wit accountant class are a pox.
If by a few you mean 26,000, and by upper middle class you mostly mean middle class, then yes you'd be correct...

You have to know it's not just overly tenacious traders being laid off, they're actually a minority. Most of the people being laid off are lower earning family men doing infrastructure work or other corporate stuff (HR, IT, etc).

So no, it's not funny, and yes, you are a ****wit.

A couple of the guys I knew have to uproot their families and move them out because there's no jobs for financial services software guys in NY right now, and the rent/mortgage payments for living around NYC was insane. The whole family is suffering because of this.

This doesn't even make any sense.

It's never funny when people get laid off.

As I was heading for bed last night, I flipped over to some show that had been preempted by a financial program from India.

All the stocks shown were down 3% - 4% Some were strong companies that even I know, e.g. Tata Motors.

The U.S. sneezes, and the rest of the world gets pneumonia.

Hopefully, this downward jot will shake out all the rot and we can begin to recover.

Erm... they were probably making too much money anyway. They probably thought that made them better than other people to. So it's entertaining.
