Not so much... I'd argue that Dems do better when they run Southern whites. Ever since Kennedy that's all we've been able to elect.

I just hope we can stop talking about VPs soon. This is such a non-issue.

My take on this (naming Palin) is that it's a well-conceived plan to draw the discussio away from Bush, Iraq, and the foundering economy. Wasn't this supposed to be the election where we had a clear choice based on the issues?

If the Dems don't get back to the business of pounding home their message, they could blow what should be a gift-wrapped election.

Way too late. Palin's the talk of the town today.
I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891

No, my take on this is that we'll elect McCain, he'll die soon after and something out of a bad comedy will ensue.

I think Palin could be an outstanding candidate, and this should be her springboard to national GOP prominence. If Obama wins, she would be the 2012 candidate by virtual acclamation.

                  But first things first...

Yup, although I'd add the adjective "old" to that, rah. This year there's still a couple of old white guys in the 4 places (one of them REALLY old!), but at a minimum one of them isn't boring, and one of them isn't the main one.

As for Australia and rural conservatism, there is definitely some of that. However, by far most in Oz live in one of three big cities, so conservatism isn't as dominant politically as it is in the US. Things can get pretty Republican when they do (Howard was like Bush in many ways, except a lot cleverer and without the problems of his legacy), but then there's Rudd, and things swing pretty far in the OTHER direction.

More to do with the right not letting the subject go. I think they know the more people are talking about Palin and the less about McCain the better it is for them overall... they can't distance themselves any further from the moderates than they already have.

We'll have to wait until the GOP convention is done before the Palin talk dies down.

Yea, something like that. In fact, I was just thinking of all the late night comedy skits protraying her. It's gonna be a field day.

Well it's thicker than any accents I've heard in OK, but then I guess you would hear thicker accents in Alabama or something, however I haven't been there. Also, I've never heard an Alaskan accent before, as I've never met anyone raised there.

Makes me wonder Kid watching "Fargo". He'd probably hate it since he'd have no clue what they were saying.
