License plates, accents, the fact that we were visiting Niagra Falls and most of the people actually looking at the falls were Americans.

      Bavaria (where I'm living atm)
Franken (which has a separatist movement from Bavaria)
Baden (Baden feels as SBZ - Schwäbische Besatzungszone)
Baden-Württemberg (some fools think an Alemannian state consisting of Baden, Württemberg, Alsace and the German-speaking Switzerland would be nice. Of course you should include Vorarlberg and exclude the northern parts which are Frankish)
      Alsace
      Provence
      Scotland
      Preston (autonomous region of Lancashire)
      Northern Italy
      Tyrol
      Flanders
Why doing it the easy way if it is possible to do it complicated?

It was mainly said in jest.

God, you're so ****ing serious and whingey all the time - no wonder you're a Gooners fan...

Still, the fact remains that it does have a separatist movement, political party, language (albeit resurrected from the dead!), culture etc...

I fail to see why Gimp is so anti the whole idea. Perhaps he ate a dodgy pasty or got gang-raped by a bunch of drunken tin miners down some dark passageway of St Michael's Mount...? Or both!!!
Is it me, or is MOBIUS a horrible person?

Because Gimp is substantially Cornish by descent, goes there at least twice a year, and is...

1- well aware that a costly devolution would be catastrophic for Cornwall without massive subsidisation from elsewhere.

2- well aware that the Cornish nationalists are incapable of winning anything more than the odd (very rare) parish council seat because they have no local support.

3- amused that despite Mebyon Kernow being set up to promote Cornish language and culture, its website is in English.

4- of the opinion that Europe doesn't need a third-world pauper state added to it.

Quebec is not a separatist or an autonomous region -- it's a province like nine others in Canada.
Quebec is recognized as an independent nation by the Government of Canada. You are wrong.

I meant anti the idea of the definition of the OP...

Not that Cornwall becoming independent was actually a good idea...

I think it would be great if Wales could ultimately become independent, but I know that for the near future that would be completely crazy. I'd just like parity with Scotland's powers right now.

Scottish and Welsh nationalism are bite-size, whilst English nationalism is just too damn big for the identity industry. Hence the need to invent new ethnic groups, like 'white working class'. It's kinda sad that with the demise of Marxism, the idea that people in similar economic circumstances have something fundamental in common has died also. Everything has to be seen through an ethnic lens.

Personally, I'm starting to suspect that ethnicity is little more than nonsense. It seems to mean practically anything.

Identity wonks need lots of small communities to make themselves relevant. A very large, dominant community makes them useless.
