During the cold war we at least knew who our friends and enemies were, but of course there was always the French.
If there was a problem elsewhere in the world it was inevitably the fault of either Washington, Moscow, or the SLA, but that's a whole other story. The French never became the problem they imagined themselves to be.
No, it was all about who had the biggest empire. When we compare empires today the Russian has certainly shriveled while the US has erected a HUGE one.
Putin knows this, and it doesn't make him HappyPutin. So, we now have the rather unimpressive rape if Georgia, and a return to the stability of the cold war.
This time, its Russia's fault.
...and THAT'S the silver lining. Nobody is thinking about Iraq anymore or picking on our Bush, who has the real Evil Empire back again. (The axis of evil never measured up)
The allies are acting like allies again, the enemy is back to being the enemy. The presidents are being presidential, its all sunshine in NATO time.
