    I doubt.

Though, that is again more proof that Russia was suspiciously ready for these events. Own goal Serb.
Nope. It's just an proof that you and David are living in a world of your arrogant fantasies. We can project power and react pretty quick. That's it.

Ah, sorry to burst your bubble, but given that Iraq was under comprehensive sanctions since 1991, including bans on weapons sales, Iraq most certainly did not have "state of the art" anything by 2003. And the Soviets never sold their Arab clients state of the art anything either.

or when we occupied a county many times larger in land area and population

Well, the Russians aren't occupying Georgia whole.

or when we did both of the above from the opposite side of the world?
Not as impressive as you make it sound, given that the US has had rather large standing bases there for over a decade, and that we invaded Iraq with about six months of moving stuff over there.

Perhaps you are refering to how we did it all with less casualties?
You mean attack a demoralized army in open terrain with old equipment using far more firepower than the Russian have employeed here?

Plus of course, since when are you privy to Russian casualty numbers?

      • While there is some Cold War-esq. rhetoric and actions coming from the West, it seems to me this is hardly a 1-way street. Russians appear to be just as easily seduced into refighting the Cold War.

Hence the importance of ultimately coming up with answers to the other side of Saras' question. Russia could work to better relations too.

Your compatriot took a stab at it, though I note that 3 of his 4 suggested changes for Russia are internal changes. Interesting that the things that would theoretically improve relations with the West are largely a matter of treating your own people better ("loosening the grip" on the party system, press and economy). The 4th suggestion is to acknowledge "heavy handedness" in Soviet foreign policy, which is basically about apologizing for Cold War overkill (which of course the West could do as well) - and is fairly meaningless. It's a symbolic gesture. Not tangible policy moving forward.

Three of his five suggestions for the West are along similar lines (symbolic for the most part), but the other two are significant policy changes (NATO dissolution/invitation to Russia, stop funding NGOs). Particularly NATO.

Wow! You are asking me to stop?
What's the matter? That sounds like a plea. Wake up Neo and surrender. And yeah it's my fifth beer and I have a lot of fun sh!tting on your face.

You mean where we routed twenty odd divisions worth of troops armed with state of the art Russian weapons,

State of the art WHAT? Wake up Neo.
Iraq have been embargoed for a decade, FYI. There couldn't be ANY modern Russian weaponry by definition, not that even USSR sent them its "state of the art weapons". All what Saddam had were 20-30 years old DOWNGRADED obsolete Soviet designs.

Yeah, right. Surely you redeployed your army within hours, days, not months?
Are you still there? Do you think you can win? How many more years it will take for you to run from there with tails between your legs? And how many casualties you took there?
You lost already what 2 000, 3000? How many?
We wiped out your students, trained by your instructors and armed with your state of the art weapons within five days and lost what... 20 soldiers???
We could be in Tbilisi yesterday and hang your loyal monkey like you hanged Saddam, but you know what?
Aside you, you lying hypocrite bastards, we are honest people who keep its word and respect the international law.

This is SO Russian! It is this kind of thinking that will never allow you to be the equals of Western Countries.

If Britain still felt this way about France (or vice versa), do you think either country would have fulfilled their potential?

Russia needs to get a clue.

So, you took our power projection capabilities as a proof of what? That we provoked Georgia to kill civilians with their multiple-launch rocket systems, heavy artillery, tanks and bombers?
