Before you land in the Phils, the airline will give you a form to fill out about your stay. The toughest question is at what address will you'll be staying in the Phils. The first time I filled in something like "Jotojot residence in Jagna, Bohol," and that was okay with them.

If you're travelling on your own, change some American dollars for pesos at the airport. You'll need pesos to get around. IIRC, the first time I went, Dolores had me hold onto my money till I got to Tagbalarian, where she knows a place where she can get a better exchange rate.

Edit: The above is subject to tweeking by Lancer, due to my often-faulty memory.

    • Your memory is better than mine so...

We should continue the memory discussion in the 'How ****ed are we' thread.

      • Thanks for the run-down.

First real snowfall of the year this week, so I'm definitely ready to go.

        • The only long pants you'll need is what you wear there and back. Pack short pants.

Bring a book to read on the plane. It's a loooong flight. Hopefully you'll be able to sleep and there'll be some good movies, but it's a looooong flight.

          • I was planning on taking War and Peace and Les Miserables. Between the two there's about 20 hours of some of my favorite reading.

            • Welcome. Zkrib's spot on about the flight. Aside the long hours in the airports there's that exciting moment when you get on that plane that will carry you to asia! You board, stow your stuff, have a seat and then...nothing. Freakin 12ish or whatever hours of nothing. Helps if you don't drink coffee that day but I always do. Eventually everyone turns out their overhead light and there's too much guilt associated with leaving mine on so I turn it off. So much for the book. Soon everyone is asleep and you swear the stewaresses got off somewhere. This continues until forever, until you realize that you have most certainly died and this is the fate you were hoping to avoid. The snoring drowns out the engine noise and you become intensely jealous of the asian ability to sleep anywhere. Your back of the mind concern that the plane will crash becomes a hope, hours pass slowly, so slowly, then it happens...

Lights come on, stewardesses block the isles with breakfast and you suddenly realize you have to take a leak. But who cares, there's the coffee pot coming your way with a tray of eggs and sausa...nope, that was the last tray for the guy next top you. The stewardess goes and refills her cart and returns. "Sir, sorry we are out of eggs potatoes and sausage, would you like the raw squid testicles with rice, the goat brains in purified seagull liver juice and rice or one of our more exotic dishes and rice?

              Yeah, its fun.

              • 15 lbs for the carry on plus personal item

                2 bags @ 50 lbs in the past, before that 2 @ 70 lbs. 44 now? Ok...thanks.

*If you show your international ticket when you check in at the Delta desk they should up it to 2 bags if they know what they're doing. They always have in Eugene on domestic flights though its not Delta. If you want to confirm this call your airport and ask for the Delta desk or call Darlene.

"**Doesn't say how many bags for travel within the Philippines. Just 44 lbs"

**I'm not sure but whatever. Last trip we all had a big box plus our luggage. They hit us with a fee but it wasn't too bad.

This trip we're spending the $65 per box @ LBC and avoiding having to drag boxes around. Papa and I are being diciplined about one bag each but Dolores will have two, though one is small.

Zkrib is so cool about the trip that he flew over for a 3 day stay last go round.

Work was driving me nuts. I had to run away from home for awhile.

I didn't even make it to Lancer's place before I came to the conclusion that the Phils are where I'm retiring. Slow pace, tropical seas, wonderful people.

                    • My computer case is gonna fit into my luggage it looks like. Might get scratched up or dented, but it'll fit

(It's also all aluminum, so hardly weighs anything.)

Still taking it all apart and boxing the individual components though. That way they're safer (especially from each other if something should come loose) and I can use the interior of the computer case more efficiently as well. The case will help protect things too, so even if it does get damaged it'll

                            • It's a tropical case, has a palm tree cutout on the side... leaving it here in Utah over the winter just wouldn't be right!
