  • I wonder what we offered the US for Georgia. It seems the proud mountain country is gonna take it in the ass for the next couple of months or even years.

Hey, it's what I would have told Bush in that situation.

            • Georgia would not even be considered for NATO membership as long as there were any outstanding disputes about its' borders, so as long as South Ossetia and Abkhazia remained in their legally murky state, Georgia was never going to get NATO membership.

Personally, I think the Georgians took a chance at settling the South Ossetian issue while they thought Russia wasn't looking, and were caught off guard by how hard the Russians reacted.

Yeah. The logistics are really tough here. If the first strike were successful, the Russians would have a hell of a rough time trying to send reinforcements. OTOH, Putin/Medvedev's power is largely based on nationalism. I don't think they could've been scared off by that easily. In a sense, it's probably a good thing that the Georgian offensive wasn't successful; that could've lead to a long and bloody conflict...

What I want to know is whether we ever hinted to Georgia that we'd have their back. I mean, they did have the third largest troop presence in Iraq. That sort of thing usually doesn't come free. If we did that, it'd be a **** up of the highest order.

I believe the deal involved a second round draft pick and a player to be named later.

I doubt. Hardly we will invade Georgian soil, more likely we'll do the same what Americans did towards Yougoslavia and Iraq and keep destroying their military infrastructure untill they surrender. And I bet the terms of surrender are obvious now: South Osetia and (very likely) Abkhazia should gain independence to prevent repeat of the recent genocide. I have no doubt that Russia won't officially annex neither South Osetia or Abkhazia (not to mention Georgia, as some suggested). As long as South Osetia will gain independence we open Russian-Osetian border, sign a mutal protection agreement or a military alliance sorta we have now with Beylorussia, to protect South Osetia from any further attacks from Georgia and likely create some military bases there. De-juro South Osetia will be an independent state, while de-facto there will be no borders between our countries. That will be a united economic space between us. Sorta like that was before the Georgian agression with the only exception that South Osetia will be recognized as an independent state.

                    Also, WB!
TY. It is possible thanks to Solver (the guy who rightfully banned my on my request). So thank him, not me . I was an as$hole. Though I don't regrate about a single word I've said to the Lithuanian dude.

p.s. As for military aspect of the operation Saturn, no doubt that Saakashvilii army will be completely destroyed pretty soon. We have enough forces now and it looks like Abkhazia is willing to exploit the situation to officially achieve its own independence.
The Saakashvili's regime is history now. The jail somewhere in Siberia already awaits this bastard. I hope it wont be a jail in my city. We don't need his kind of stinking bloody butchers here.

That's another bullsh!t from Saakahvilii (ok, call it a "disinformation").
His plan "A" was to capture South Osetia very very soon before anyone (ok, Russia) could intervene. If failed here comes the plan "B" - to portray Georgia as victim. Actually that was the same plan, Georgia both invaded and do their best to portray itself as a victim at the same time. And he had a clear indication of at least "information support" from his master (read US of A). That information support I can see now at your western new sources. They are biased, lying, and one-sided as always. Free democrats, my ass.

Saakashvilii is just lying again, his troops still firing at Russian peacekeepers and Osetian civilians. Nothing has realy changed. The war still goes on.
