  • Privately-funded rocket ready for 3rd try

As some of you might remember, I've mentioned that there have been no successful privately-funded orbital rocket developments. All orbital launch vehicles to date has been government funded. SpaceX, in Los Angeles, is trying to become the first privately-funded success story with the launch of the Falcon 1. This is SpaceX's third attempt. The first attempt ended in the Pacific ocean not far from the pad. The second attempt ended in the second-stage burn not making orbital velocity.

The launch is scheduled for as early as 4:00 PM Pacific US time (2 hours from now). The webcast will begin at roughly T-30 minutes. If there is a delay, the company has the range reserved for the next several days to try again.

Here's the OTF thread from the first try.

Here's the OTF thread from the second try.

I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891

As good a way to piss away money as any.
      Good luck.

Is it just my connection, or does that webcast totally suck ass? Hopefully their rocket team is more skilled than their webmaster...
        Unbelievable!

It's not just your connection. Indeed, it sucks ass. Maybe it has degraded due to the large number of viewers.

They also went back in time in their update posts...

I'd think time travel is much more interesting than space flight...

I'm sure that's the reason, but you'd think they could have anticipated the volume beforehand.

This is so funny. Quicktime, which is running the webcast, just crashed.

Ah, the crappy webcast is now dead as Dilinger. Now that we know they used a damned Mac, it suddenly all makes sense...

                      edit: damn, x-post again

Why do they think they can launch a rocket if they can't pick an OS for the desktop properly?

Odd, I had the cast up and it didn't crash for me ... (in windows)...

It's on hold now, can't tell the T-Minus because it's not visible on the scree anymore (it's just off the top).
