Yikes, I know someone named Steve too! Between those three people, surely it's one of them. I mean, how many more Steves could there possibly be?

Anyway, what happened was that my mother got sexually involved with a guy in late 1962 before she met my dad. She gave birth to Steve about a year before she got together with dad, and then later down the road, when my dad proposed, she explained this to him before she said yes.

Steve grew up all his life, and still lives to this day, on a farm only EIGHT miles from my mother's home. He went to school, made friends, and worked a farm all these years so close by, without my mother ever knowing his name, and where he lived.

Two years ago, the Catholic adoption service she gave the baby to asked for updated information about her (indicating that this was time Steve finally made an inquiry). Then, just a week ago, he finally contacted our mother and they talked for the first time after all these years.

His livliehood not only includes running a family farm, but he also commutes to a city nearby and works at a manufacturing company. So, our mother and Steve will meet one-on-one first at her home, and then they will probably work out when us kids can meet with Steve for the first time.

He's never been married, but kids did not come up in their first conversation, so we don't know if he may still have a kid of his own or not. He grew up with one adoptive sister and told our mother that his adoptive parents were really wonderful and he had a great family life while growing up.

Not really, I've never known him and he hasn't sought out my mother, so he doesn't seem to want to meet her either. So I let it go.
